Plot

Set in the not-too-distant future, the film tells the story of an alien invasion that occurred years earlier. The extraterrestrials, initially greeted with curiosity, are soon marginalized and confined to a ghetto, District 9, in South Africa. There they live in inhumane conditions, exploited and discriminated against by the local population.

At the center of the narrative is Wikus van der Merwe, a government agent tasked with overseeing the aliens' eviction from District 9. During an operation, Wikus comes into contact with an alien substance that gradually transforms him, leading him to understand the extraterrestrials' suffering and to put himself in danger to help them.
